Inside Out Lesson by Kristen O’Brien (South Korea ETA), Katherine King, and Disney

For those of you looking for a lesson, games, or activities to teach with a movie, this lesson has all the materials necessary to show a movie (Inside Out), to students, but also seeks to teach students as well. This lesson will focus on teaching students about emotions and the memories we associate with these feelings. This lesson is probably best for younger kids (elementary or younger, possibly okay for 1st year middle schoolers). You can judge based on your students’ level!

First, I showed my students a lesson PPT. I taught them the key vocabulary used in the movie. I then had the students do a memory writing exercise (also contained in my PPT). I showed them examples of my own memories and experiences, and how they should write about their own feelings.

After watching the movie, there are plenty of materials available for free from Disney, which I will include below. I first had my students play an Inside Out board game made by Katherine King, where they talked about their emotions. After that, you can play a maze game, connect the dots, spot the difference game, let them color coloring pages, or even teach them how to fold and make hexaflegons.

Happy teaching~
