Lesson of the Week: Black History Month Introduction and Civil Rights

Black History Month Introduction and Civil Rights by Sojourner White (Spain ETA)

It’s February 1st so it’s only right to kick off a new month with a new history lesson! Educate your students on important black figures in history by beginning with the most famous, The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and how his vision has shaped a nation. This lesson is only the beginning to demonstrate the melting pot of cultures that is the United States and can easily be turned into a month-long series with various historical figures.

The lesson can go more in-depth based on the English level and grade level by having an open discussion about race, but also simplified for kindergarteners to talk about acceptance.

Embrace other cultures (and this lesson catalog)! Don’t forget to come back next week for another activity for your classroom!
