Lesson of the Week: Introducing Taiwan Hot Springs and American Natural Springs

Hi there! My school is located in Beitou County, Taipei, Taiwan (R.O.C.). This part of Taipei City is famous for the abundance of natural hot springs that can be found on Yang Ming Mountain.

This lesson can be used if your school/city has any natural springs, rivers, lakes, etc. that might be famous or a popular recreational place for citizens to go and enjoy themselves and relax.

I talked with my students about the hot springs that they are familiar with here in Taiwan, and then I contrasted them with some of the differences in natural springs that I am familiar with having grown up in Florida.

Hot Springs are an incredibly popular tourist attraction, so I also introduced some useful vocabulary words to my students. This way they could help out a foreigner who might be confused about the proper etiquette for soaking in a natural hot spring.

Attached you’ll find a detailed description of the content I covered, a PPT with pictures and vocabulary words, and a PDF with the Go Fish vocabulary.
