Biographical Recount Text by Ayat Abourashed (Indonesia ETA)
Have students ever wondered who started Valentine’s Day? Well, this week’s lesson focuses on Saint Valentine by learning about biographical recount text.
This lesson is for high school students and focuses on the general structure of recount text. Students will warm up by learning some common idioms we might use to write on Valentine’s Day cards and keep their energy high with some reading races. This is a low-tech lesson so it’s perfect for when you might have a lot of mati lampus (blackouts) in Indonesian classrooms.
While some ETAs are placed at Christian or vocational schools, Indonesia is still a majority Muslim country so make sure it is ok to cover the history of a Saint in your classroom.
