Living in Rīga: a Day in the Life of a Fulbright ETA in Latvia

– by Khalid Sheikh

This Spring, Fulbridge invited Fulbright grantees and alumni– ETAs, researchers, foreign scholars, and FLTAs– to submit a video, essay, photo essay, or photo that reflected A Day in the Life of their Fulbright experience.

These submissions could be internally or externally focused and aim teach audiences something new about the authors’ host countries.

The full series will be located here.

I initially recorded this video as a way to show my friends back home what I had been doing during my year in Latvia. To me, this video shows everything I loved about living in Latvia: the beauty of Riga’s Old Town, my amazing students and coworkers, and my fellow Fulbrighters. Enjoy!

Khalid graduated in 2018 from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in History. He worked as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Riga at Riga Stradins University and Riga Classical Gymnasium. Upon his completion of the Fulbright, Khalid returned to Texas to attend medical school.
