Last month, Fulbridge reached out to Fulbrighters across the world to compile some of the exciting work being created and distributed by current Fulbright grantees or alumni. Trauma, Primitivism and the First World War – Joy Porter
Joy Porter explores how the First World War affected the Canadian Poet, Frank “Toronto” Prewett and how war-induced trauma caused him to pretend to be an indigenous North American. Porter investigates the history of trauma, literary expression, and the power of self-representation after WWI along with the influence of, and acceptance by, some of the most significant literary figures of the time.
Joy Porter was a 2015-2016 Fulbright All Disciplines Scholar Award with the Department of Native Studies at Dartmouth, US. She was born in the North of Ireland and writes about Indigenous histories, literatures and cultures and their relationship to modernity and the environment. Currently, she is a Leverhulme Major Research Fellow (2019-2022) and Professor of Indigenous and Environmental History within the History Department at Hull University, UK.
America, Russia and the Birth of Modern Greece – Dimitris Michalopoulos
In 1806 an anonymous Greek book called for a republican government, patterned upon that of the young United States, to be established in Greece. In this revelatory new book, Dimitris Michalopoulos follows Capo d’Istria’s career along with Alexander Hypsilantis, a Greek who became a general of the Russian army and tried to attract Russia’s interest in a democratic revolution for Greece.
Dimitris Michalopoulos was a 1984-1985 U.S. Visiting Fulbright Scholar. He is a member French Academy of Marine Arts and Sciences. Previously, he served as director of the Museum of the City of Athens where he organized the first exhibition of a large Russian museum in a Western European country. He has taught as a lecturer and assistant professor at the Law School of the University of Thessaloniki, Naval School of War, School of Naval Trials.
History of the Aguijón Theatre – Elio Leturia
In this bilingual book, Elio Leturia combines illustrations and the testimonies of playwrights and theater scholars from across the world to explore the history of Aguijón Theater, the oldest Latino theater company in Chicago.
About the Author
Elio Leturia was a 1990-91 Visiting Fulbright Scholar and is a specialist in visual journalism, with over 30 years of experience working at several national newspapers and magazines in the United States and abroad. As a bilingual writer his articles have appeared in the Detroit Free Press, The Miami Herald, El Comercio, El Peruano, Visualmente.com and The Huffington Post, among others.
Additional works include his documentary “Tita Turns 100, ” which premiered at the Chicago Feminist Film Festival in 2016, winning the Lisagor Award in the Best Short Film Documentary category in 2017. Leturia is also an actor and an ensemble member of Aguijón Theater of Chicago.
Hurry to the Capsule – To Be Prince on Maui
Hurry to the Capsule is an Atelier gathering the works of independent and underground authors, known as the Werths Collective. Hurry to the Capsule publishes books and also serves as an active workshop that focuses on bringing works to a wider audience. They consolidate literary work separately and according to available means, growing their reach while ensuring anonymity. The authors operate under pen names – To Be Prince on Maui is a work written by one of these anonymous authors, who is a Fulbright Scholar.
TV and Radio Broadcasting – Nadia Abreu Bengo
Nadia Abreu Bengo analysed how TV and Radio broadcasting classes influenced primary school teachers continuing professional development. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Angolan Ministry of Education offered its primary school teachers an opportunity to attend a distance professional development activity; the study concluded that TV and radio broadcasting classes’ practical aspects improved their procedures, such as content organization and contextualization significantly.
About the Author
Nadia Abreu Bengo was a 2015-2016 Fulbright Foreign Student at the College of Saint Rose in U.S. She is currently working in the Department of Continuous and Distance Education, National Institute of Education Staff, in the Angolan Ministry of Education. Previously, she worked as a teacher of Theory of Education and Curriculum Development at the School of Arts, Luanda, Angola and was a teacher of Didactics, Pedagogy and Teaching Methodologies at Escola Superior Pedagógica do Bengo.

Agnes Martin: Pioneer, Painter, Icon – Henry Martin
Henry Martin explores the extraordinary life and work of Agnes Martin (no relation) through interviews with friends, family and lovers. Agnes Martin Agnes Martin: Pioneer, Painter, Icon – Henry Martin a key figure in the male-dominated 1960s art world, creating abstract and geometric paintings that bridged the work of her contemporaries Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollockis certain to be a mainstay for readers of the arts, and admirers of the creative spirit. Revelatory accounts of the artist’s early life, combined with unpublished photographs from Martin’s family and friends, make this an essential biography on the artist.
Henry Martin was a 2019-2020 Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the Smithsonian Institute, and also a recipient of the Fulbright Creative Ireland Museum Fellowship grant. Henry is currently researching 20th American women art dealers and their impact on modernism and promoting American modernist artists. He also writes plays, screenplays, poetry, and has taught creative writing at University level. He is the editor of The Signal House Edition, a platform that actively seeks submissions of fiction and non-fiction. A review of the value of solar methodology with a case study of the U.S. VOS – Koami Soulemane Hayibo
In this published research article, Koami Soulemane Hayibo, together with Joshua M Pearce, examines the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and its economic advantages in the U.S to overcome the challenges of value of solar (VOS) calculations and emphasize the need for regulatory reform.
About the Author
Koami Soulemane Hayibo is a 2019-2021 Fulbright Foreign Graduate Student who is pursuing his Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Technological University. His studies focus on renewable energy sources with a particular interest in solar panels. Additional published works include :
